Creativity and Community

OM Artslink - Middle East Middle East, Winter 2007

The ArtsLink staff joined long-term workers in the Middle East to bring theological training with supporting art projects to a variety of doors which God opened. Although challenged to deliver appropriate messages to audiences of mixed religions, the response everywhere was warm and enthusiastic.

OM Artslink - Middle East

Speaking to over 100 teachers or leaders, and working with over 500 students of all ages, the ArtsLink team spoke on The Creativity of God, The Broken Imagination, Creativity and Community, Integrity and Redemption. Art projects supporting these themes drove the messages home in tangible ways, and spun off their own lessons. The team distributed art cards and art trading cards, contributed by ArtsLink alumni. No matter the venue, people were hungry for ideas, and were inspired to think beyond just a new list of art projects to do. Encouraging creativity and imagination, in their students as well as themselves, was an intriguing new concept for most teachers.

After twenty-one days, twenty-six presentations in four schools, four churches, one orphanage and one Garbage Village, one tired but happy ArtsLink team listened to the field response during a last-day debrief:

"Excellent…exceeding expectations… one of the most successful short term team experiences the field has seen…We appreciate you so much!"

Invitations to return followed, to add to the many received from churches and schools - confirming again the timeliness and effectiveness of ministry through the arts.
